Chiang Mai is the center of northern Thailand and it has almost all the same signs of modern development as the busy capital city, Bangkok . Yes even though the city of Chiang Mai itself is surrounded by tall modern buildings, there are also many precious old temples, dating back to the prosperous Lanna Empire, located among the structures and facilities of the new civilization. Some tourists visiting Chiang Mai may overlook those old priceless places, but luckily they have been able to survive and are being preserved amidst the rushed pace of to day’ s technological world.

A research project conducted in the year 1897 disclosed that there were once more than a hundred temples located in the same compound within the city’s walls. Some of them later became deserted and some merged together to from a larger a larger temple.

I arrived in Chiang Mai in the morning. After checking in at the hotel. I got on a “ Song Taew,” the local from of transportation which is like a  small bus, with a fare ranging from 10-50 bath, depending on the distance of your journey. The Song Taew route took me along Huay Kaew Road and then turned left to Wieng Kaew Street, where after about five minutes I got off at one of the precious heritage sites of Chiang Mai, Wat Chiang Man.
